Artful food and plain ol' art

La Durée makes a stupidly good macaron, and I ate a stupid amount of them while in Paris, with zero regrets. Just look at them! It's a rainbow! Sometime macarons look prettier than they taste, but these actually all had distinct flavors; each macaron was a two-bite burst of flavor and texture.

While there are many locations of even this brand of macaron in Paris, we treated ourselves to the OG location on the Champs-Élysées, and treated the world to a stupid picture of us while waiting in line.

The Louvre has lots of art, yes. It usually also has lots of people who make seeing that art challenging (at best) and infuriating (at usual). One upside of the pandemic is timed museum entries and reduced capacity, which enabled me to see the Mona Lisa for the first time, even though I've been to the Louvre three times! Christian and I have around the same internal timer for museums that allows us around 2 hours of attention span, and in normal circumstances that would be enough time to see Winged Victory, the Mona Lisa, and maybe something else (I'm barely exaggerating) but we were able to see almost everything we wanted to, plus found some new favorites! We also learned the hard way that every day of the week is designated as a cleaning day, where a particular wing of the museum is closed to visitors; sadly for us, the wing that was closed held some pieces of particular interest, but I suppose we'll just have to pop back over on a different day sometime soon. Drat!
