Pretty Parisian Meals and Tipples

Traditional French cuisine is not vegetarian-friendly, but thankfully, neither Christian nor I have that particular snobbiness that causes folks to exhort the virtues of "authenticity" when we are two West Coast vegetarians, bordering on vegan, that just want some tasty food that was hopefully made by folks who get paid decently. With all that firmly in mind, we sought out places to eat and drink that balanced a curiosity of how French cuisine could be interpreted through a vegetarian/vegan lens; the degree to which France's colonial past influences its present-day food; and a penchant for fruity cocktails, and we found some excellent spots that we heartily recommend!

Le Potager Charlotte serves locally-sourced and beautifully- plated meals that fill you up without weighing you down. Le Comptoir General, a bar that is also a restaurant and maybe a movie set, makes you feel like you're on the backlot of a pirate movie, and serves tasty tiki drinks. Le Potager du Marais  delivered our favorite meal of the entire trip, something we didn't even realize we missed after we became vegetarian: French onion soup. At 5 Pailles, fluffy American-style pancakes and eggs benedict await.
